The Gathering helps fund Summer Camp in Haiti!

The Java Relief Booth set up in front of the Gathering

We had a great time at our fifth annual Willmar Fest parade last weekend!
Once again, The Gathering invited us to set up our booth on the parade route and because of their generous donation, everyone had free coffee and cold press!  Thanks so much to all of you at The Gathering! Because of this donation and others, Java Relief was able to send $2,500 to The Luken Foundation for their summer camp!

Summer Camp for 350 kids in the gang-controlled slum in Cité Soleil, Haiti.

Every year The Luken Foundation provides summer camp so the children in the slum of Cité Soleil will have a safe place to be.  The camp runs from July through August! It's the best time of the year for these children. Our hope is to someday have 500 children attend.

Here is a message from Luken:

“The Luken Foundation is in Cité Soleil, Port-au-Prince, and we help kids with hard lives. We want to give them a safe place with education and care from the heart. Thank you so much for your past support, it has brought life and hope to many children. The Bible says in Matthew 25:40, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me."

Every year, our summer camp, “Yon Lete Espwa nan Site Soley” (A Summer of Hope in Cité Soleil), gives joy and healing to kids who face violence and poverty. We want them to enjoy life, as Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Our camp is a safe place for them to learn, play, and heal. We want to help 350 kids for two months through fun activities this summer. We need to raise $5,000 each month, mostly for food which is very expensive in Haiti. We believe, as Luke 1:37 says, “Nothing will be impossible with God" and with your help, we can get the money we need to care for them.

These kids are vulnerable and live in a hard place but they find hope through our programs. We give them education and support to meet their needs. James 1:27 reminds us, “Look after orphans and widows in their distress.” We want to care for these young souls with love.

To make this year’s camp a success, we need your help.

Your donations will go straight to helping these kids and will make a big difference. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 9:6, “Whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”

Every night, I pray and cry for Haiti. The suffering of our kids is hard to see, but I believe in God’s love and the power of our community to bring change. Together, let’s be a light for these kids, leading them to a brighter future. May God bless you for your kindness and multiply your good deeds. We trust in Philippians 4:19, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Amen.
